Sarla Indian Restaurant

This authentic Indian restaurant features the finest traditional cooking, a symphony of aromas and flavours in a unique setting, with a spectacular kitchen open to view. The menu features a wide selection of Tandoori, curry and vegetarian dishes, 80 Italian wines, 7 Indian wines and 5 Indian beers, and many home-made desserts. The dining room is beautifully decorated, and the atmosphere is completed by live sitar music at dinner, with special cultural events such as Indian dance on some evenings. The Sarla restaurant was created by Shekhar Reikhi in 2003, refurbishing a location in Via Stampa, in the shadow of the historic Basilica of San Lorenzo with its spectacular Ancient Roman columns. Shekhar Reikhi, from New Delhi, has been in Milan in 1981, and named the restaurant after his mother, who, as Shekhar himself says, "taught me everything about cooking". The cuisine is basically north Indian. A complete section of the menu is dedicated to tandoori dishes, such as Fish Tikka, with fresh swordfish or salmon, Jhingha Tandoori, Hariyali Tikka with chicken marinated in yoghurt, spices and vegetables, Paneer Nilgiri, a cheese-based tandoori recipe, and Bharvan Aloo, potatoes prepared according to a traditional recipe. The classic curry sauces include Korma, the most delicate, Curry, and the very hot Vindaloo. The home-made desserts contain no preservatives, and they are made principally from milk and fruit. There is also Indian ice-cream, named Kulfi. At midday, there is a special menu of one-dish meals and Thali recipes for a quick and inexpensive break. Thali is a tray with a number of bowls incorporated, and it is a tradition that dates back to Ancient Indian civilisations. The Sarla restaurant's Thali comprises four freshly-prepared recipes, with rice and naan. Other lunchtime specialities include Mixed Tandoori Platter with Naan, Fish Tikka with Mili Juli Bhaji and Naan, Murg Makhani with rice and fresh vegetables, the vegetarian Malai Kofta, Vegetable Biryani, Chicken Biryani, Chicken Curry and rice, Kathi chicken roll, Kathi lamb rool, Kathi vegetable roll, and many others. Prices at lunchtime are particularly attractive: one-dish menus at 6, 8 or 10 euro, with Thali at 12 euro, and Fish Thali at 18 euro (drinks excluded). There is no cover charge at lunch For more information, visit our website. There is information on special events under the menu heading "eventi".
